| "Gutsy" audio impact from Outline at Verona's Filarmonico cinema |
|
The Filarmonico Cinema, one of Verona’s most prestigious theatres, right in the centre of the Italian town and just a few yards from the Arena, has undergone a cutting edge upgrade. Renovation work involved a technical staff of over 20 people and an investment of approximately a billion liras. The need to offer a higher quality service than the nearby multi-screen venues resulted in an exclusive audio system, designed by Outline technicians using very powerful simulation software designed and written in the Brescia firm’s labs. Working on the assumption that people go to the cinema for emotions-experiencing and becoming a protagonist of the show, a truly unique environment was created, totally different from the multi-screen complexes which are the current trend, thanks to its technical characteristics and content, and offering audiences something multiplexes are absolutely unable to give. Custom wood and brickwork components were used to build the sound system: the pièce de resistance of the set-up - unique in Italy and probably in the world - consists in a gigantic concrete horn for the ultra-low frequencies, built right below the projection screen and easily seen even with the curtains closed. With a folded exponential configuration, it’s no less than 18 metres wide (like the screen) and loads four 15” (38cm.) speakers. The performance figures are record-breaking. This is an exclusive idea for this type of application, and guarantees gutsy audio reproduction, inconceivable with traditional systems, no matter how well sized; what is more, the idea had already been used by Outline in other fields in Italy and abroad (the Genux maxi disco, the Stop Line multi-function centre, Acquafan’s Walky-Cup disco and other important projects in Russia).
